Every programme begins with a clinical assessment. Synapse considers suitability and what support is needed, and builds a personalised care plan. Most young people have weekly coaching. Where a young person needs more, coaching can be more intensive.

Weekly coaching

Weekly coaching is the standard Synapse programme. Your child meets their Coach once a week, online (50 minutes) or in person (90 minutes), or a mix of the two. In-person sessions take place where suits your family, such as at home, or at school with your consent.

Most programmes run for 10 to 12 sessions. The clinical team reviews the care plan every week. You meet Mollie and the Coach at the mid-point and at the end, and the programme closes with a final clinical evaluation of what has changed and what support, if any, is needed next.

In-life Coaching

The Coach works with your child where the difficulties happen: at home, at school or university, while travelling, or around a big change such as a move or the start of a course. Sessions are longer or more frequent, as the care plan sets out.

Residential and international programmes

Where it is needed, a Coach can live with your child for an agreed period, in the UK or abroad. Each programme has a written agreement, made with you, covering the Coach’s role, boundaries, working hours, communication, safeguarding, confidentiality, travel and escalation. The programme remains clinically supervised throughout.

Therapy alongside coaching

If the clinical assessment shows your child needs therapy as well as coaching, we bring in a therapist from our vetted network. Every therapist is registered with a recognised professional body, DBS checked and insured. The therapist leads the therapy and is clinically responsible for it. Your child’s Coach helps them put what they learn into practice in daily life, and Synapse coordinates the team.

Therapy can be added to any programme. Its fees are agreed with you before it starts.

Support for parents

On request, we can provide a Parent Coach, or connect you with a therapist from our vetted network, to give you a confidential space to think clearly, understand what is happening, manage your own responses and work out how best to support your child. The aim is practical: to help you feel more confident, less reactive and better able to support change at home.
